Time passed, and we saw it was a big hold up, and the momentum, the people that waited for us, we took too long. We couldn't dare come out in the same mind frame as we did in Lord Willin' - so, now we mad, we angry, we pissed the fuck off. The Field album got loads of great reviews (2nd most highly scored album on Metacritic with 90% overall) and got a lot of attention on here (though some of it was negative, it was definitely a 'big' album) for me, i think the El-P album was of a similiar standing. It got a lot of love from some corners, but for me it stood head and shoulders above pretty much everything else? Does it qualify, what with all it's end of year list placements?
Dunno, i think it should have been topping charts the Dungen record was definitely overlooked by most corners (an A from Stylus notwithstanding). I'd say it's probably the best sounding (rock) album of the year. The rest of mine are 'Telegenic'- 'Meet me in california when we're dead' which received absolutely no coverage anywhere. 'Young Galaxy' who I am shocked are so unheard of/ unappreciated.
'Mairee Sioux' was barely mentioned, I have only listened to half the album so far and it deserved to make end of the year just on the strength of those 5 tracks. 'Adam Gnade'- Whitby Island/ Palaces, wasn't mentioned anywhere, possibly because of limited release though. Lastly the new 'raveonettes' one which I really enjoyed and seems to be disregarded just because they're no longer a cool name to drop. Dalek- Abandoned Language.

The opening track is real edge of your seat stuff. Paragraphs relentless is like a tidal wave of doom. Just a really hard hitting, brutal album.!!!- Myth Takes. Miles better than the first one. The title track is so damn funky. Must be the Moon is the best song about trying to pull ever.
Bend Over Beethoven is frankly mindblowing, like sex with Prince and Funkadelic all at once. And then Infinifold is the calming cigarette afterwards. Amazing album. El-P- I'll Sleep When You're Dead.
I know I say this time and time again, but this really hasn't had enough love in end of year lists. It's better than Aesop Rock's offering. And 'None Shall Pass' is fantastic, so that shows how fantastic this one is. Those are my three main ones. The Arctopus - Skullgrid Possibly the most technically accomplished set of songs ever committed to compact disc. Endless replay value. Rosetta - Wake/Lift Expansive, beautiful and crushing post-rock/metal from one of the scene's most promising up-and-comers.
Chrome Hoof - Pre-emptive False Rapture Disco and Doom make strange, but eminently listenable, bed-fellows; who'd a thunk it! Scale the Summit - Monument Aside from Skullgrid one of the most impressive instrumental albums released this year.
Today is the Day - Axis of Eden Another near-masterpiece from these sadly overlooked masters of noisy rock/metal. Winters - Black Clouds in Twin Galaxies Sabbath style retro-Doom with beautiful Beatles-esque injections of melody.
It pains me that more people have never heard of this band, their crossover potential is huge. Kevin Drew - Spirit If. Methinks if it'd been released strictly as a BSS record it'd have gotten all kinds of love. Team - Proof of Youth. It's even better than Thunder, Lightning, Strike but doesn't have the element of surprise T,L,S had being the band's debut. Film School - Hideout.
OK, so it sounds a lot like MBV. But y'know IT SOUNDS A LOT LIKE MBV! I'm not convinced Field Music's Towns is as great as DiS reviewed it. But it's every bit as good as Hissing Fauna which got a lot of accolades. Daniel Striped Tiger - Capital cities; Pretty much my favourite record of last year. One minute it's heavy/fast DC style Fugazi influenced mayhem, and the next it's some of the most interesting and beautiful instrumental pieces of 07.
Meneguar - Strangers In Our House; Someone find me a better straight up indie rock band than Meneguar, please. Fucking brilliant. Epic45 - May Your Heart Be the Map; like, woah. Such a lovely record. Damezumari/Fire Team Charlie split; Best slice of emo for me, of 07. Fennesz / Sakamoto - Cendre; Pure gorg, ken?
Grouper - Cover the Windows and the Walls; Same as above, really. I would have killed someone to like that album. But I thought Good Bad Not Evil by Black Lips wasn't exactly underrated, but I didn't see it as much as I thought I would.
I loved that album. Also: Se Dice Bisonte, No Bufalo by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. I thought it was wonderful, yet no one said a thing about it.:( and I thought Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon was PAINFULLY underrated.
I thought it was very pretty but no one seemed to agree with me. And that In Rainbows album. Am I the only onw who knows about that?:). Esiotrot - Schmesiotrot.
Really one of the best pop bands in Britain right now. Alison Statton It had really bad distribution, but if you can find it, do! Sly Hats - Liquorice Night Australian baroque calypso!? The Botticellis - Old Home Movies I don't know if this actually came out, but it's good. Mathew Sawyer & The Ghosts - Blue Birds Blood You have to experience his voice (and his songwriting) Clear Tigers - Brutal It was set to be Pitchfork's next love affair, but they self-distributed it and next to nobody heard it.

The biggest trials that Thornton details, however, are emotional and spiritual. Obsessed with a paranoid idea that he has AIDS, Thornton went into a deep depression. He talks at the opening of his book about his “social death”–a self-imposed withdrawal from his friends, career and life in the face of what he perceived as an inevitable real death. In that swirl of depression and fear of having AIDS, Thornton turns to faith to get through.
Wretched is strewn with passages from the Bible, and it is marked as much by the influence of his spiritual mentors as it is by his colleagues and collaborators. Ultimately, the book is about Thornton being saved.
